Get ready to hop on your bikes and join us for an exhilarating adventure for a great cause. We’re thrilled to announce the return of the Amy and Friends Cycle Challenge, coming your way in June 2024! After the overwhelming success of our previous ride, we can’t wait to share the details and invite you to be part of this extraordinary journey.
A Recap of Our Inspiring Journey: Venice to Milan
In 2022, we embarked on an awe-inspiring cycling escapade from Venice to Milan, raising funds for a vital scientific conference on Cockayne Syndrome
and Trichothiodystrophy. Our beloved Amy, who inspired the creation of the Amy and Friends Cockayne Syndrome and Trichothiodystrophy Support group, was the beacon of hope behind our campaign.
Despite the challenges thrown our way, including the unexpected loss of Amy and the subsequent COVID-19 lockdown, we persevered with unwavering determination. Thanks to the exceptional efforts of 35 remarkable cyclists, including Amy’s amazing mom Jayne Hughes, sister Laura, and a host of incredible supporters, we pedalled our way to success.
The incredible team cycled 261 gruelling miles, overcoming scorching heat, picturesque countryside, and even some heart-stopping encounters with speedy vehicles. Together, we tackled hills, braved tram lines, and experienced the breathtaking beauty of sparkling lakes, sunflower fields, and tranquil lanes. Laughter, tears, and unbreakable bonds formed along the journey, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.
But our mission doesn’t end there! The funds raised through this exhilarating cycling challenge have surpassed expectations, with an astounding £73,000 and counting. This phenomenal amount will go towards organising our eagerly anticipated Family and Scientific Conference in 2023, allowing us to share vital knowledge about Cockayne Syndrome and related DNA repair disorders.
Now, with the memories of our past adventure still fresh in our hearts, we are excited to announce the next chapter of the Amy and Friends Cycle Challenge. Mark your calendars for June 12th to the 16th, 2024, as we gear up to pedal from Dover to Eindhoven, spreading awareness and raising funds for a cause that truly touches lives.
